This is not a moose.

It is an elk, and it is also stuffed. It stands on the dock at Kristiansand, greeting cruise-ship passengers from around the world. The town itself is a popular summer resort, but much quieter than most places we think of when we hear the words "summer resort".

Above: The town beach and one of the town's prized palm trees. The palm trees are in pots; during the winter, they are moved inside a greenhouse.

Right: The Kristiansand Fortress overlooks the harbour.

A vegetable market in the Town Centre.

A turret on the town Cathedral.

The Old Post Office, in the historic Posyben District. The low, wood-frame structures date from the 18th century.
