Set in the not-terribly-distant future, the story is told from the point of view of a young British girl growing up under a harshly repressive fundamentalist religious dictatorship. Katie Emmett, the novel's protagonist must learn to hold onto her values, even as she copes with the loss of much that she holds dear.
The novel combines elements of suspense and fantastic realism, tragedy and satire, to produce a haunting, emotionally wrenching tale of a young woman's coming of age, which readers will find unforgettable.
And This I Know Is True will appeal to those interested in ideas as well as action, and particularly to those concerned with human rights concerns, such as women's issues and civil liberties.
