The dome, designed by Michelangelo, of St. Peter's
Basilica.
I don't have a photo of what has to be Michelangelo's
most magnificent achievement within the Vatican campus, the Sistine
Chapel. The master's frescoes have been cleaned, a project which
took over twenty years, revealing the full vibrancy of Michelangelo's
palette. I was utterly transfixed by his altar-piece, The
Last Judgement, depsite the press of the crowds thronging
the small chambre, and the frequent admonitions of the guards:
"Silenzio! No photos!"
